It cleans the air of airborne particles but is very inefficient at cleaning the air. If you are looking for something due to allergies stay away from this one but it really is. There are some advantages: a) purifies the air to some degree (especially smoke, smelly dog) b) effectively smells the air (if you have real essential oil) --> the soap scents that came with the device were NOT good. Examples: 1) Burnt food in the kitchen causing smoke. I took this device and it cleared the smoke quicker than I expected. 2) When vacuuming, we usually don't use powder or anything other than scent, but our dog can smell the air afterwards. We run this unit during and after and it really takes the smell away. 3) Disperses the essential oil really quickly and effectively. It's very easy to use. I wouldn't buy another one, but this one has a place in our house and will continue to be used.
