My husband and I bought this projector to replace a similar Optoma DLP projector that we have had for 6 years. For the same price, this one is now much brighter. We used to have to wait until dark to see anything properly on the projector, but it's still very clear in the middle of the day (unless in direct sunlight, of course). This aspect alone is worth an upgrade for us because we can get so much more out of it. The picture is very good; Colors are bright and accurate. I also like the focus knob; Because it's so big, it offers very precise control and it's easy to get the perfect focus. The only downsides I have are minor ones: (1) It takes a very long time to turn on and switch inputs compared to other projectors I've had. . Not a big deal, just a little annoying. (2) No dust filter! I don't know why Optoma doesn't think dust filters are necessary. Apparently they're just locking them in "dusty climates," whatever that means. Without them, dust collects inside the projector, making parts more likely to overheat and break (something that happened to our last projector a few times). If you are tech savvy enough, you can open the projector from time to time and vacuum the dust to keep the projector running for a long time. Also make sure you put it in a well ventilated area / not directly against a wall and definitely not in an enclosed space like on a shelf. Don't just rely on the projector to let you know when it's too hot, damaged or melting before the built-in sensors kick in. For the future: If something goes wrong, don't be afraid to fix it yourself. The most common problem I've encountered with DLP projectors is a bad color wheel. If your colors start to flicker strangely and you hear the projector buzzing/clicking, it's probably a color wheel. You can get a new one online for <$30 and replace it yourself. Just watch the video.
