How I use it +

I have been using natural henna to cover gray hair for about 10 years. The more gray I have, the redder my hair looks as it ages (thanks to henna). If you have never used henna it will take a little time, but if you want to avoid chemicals, use this material. Here's how I do it: Pour about 1/2 cup (more or less depending on hair length) of henna into a glass or ceramic bowl with a lid. Open the hot water tap. Add some coconut oil (about 1-2 tablespoons). Add some hot water. stir. Too thick? Add a little more water. Very thin? Add some more henna. Keep doing this until you reach the desired consistency. The thinner it is, the dirtier it is, but too thick and it will be harder to get to the roots. You want something in between (well, I do). Leave the mixture in a warm place overnight. In the morning, grab an old towel, a plastic shower cap (even a plastic bag will do in a pinch), and a mixture of henna. Jump in the shower. Wet your hair. Apply henna as evenly as possible. The longer your hair, the more messy you're likely to make. When you are happy with the amount applied, you can store the remaining mixture in the freezer (if there is any left) until next time. Twist your hair into a bun and put on a plastic cap. Rinse your neck, face, back of ears, ear area, etc. Take a shower. Wipe your shower of henna. When you're done showering, don't go out. Take your old towel and drape it around your neck to catch the drips. Now you can get off. Clean up any mess you've missed. Leave on for 4 hours. After 4 hours back in the shower and rinse, rinse, rinse. Then shampoo. Sweep. Shampoo again. Sweep. Condition. Dry your hair with a towel. Gently comb damp hair with a shower comb. Let your hair dry naturally. I don't have to wash my hair for about 2 days afterwards. I repeat this every month. My hair stays dyed all the time, but I'm getting roots. If you plan to do it, it doesn't matter if it's upside down for 4 hours. You can still do things like housework or work. Or grab a coloring book and relax when you can. As said at the beginning, it's worth it. Not only are you avoiding known toxic chemicals, but your hair is beautiful because it isn't destroyed by chemicals. My hair is very long, almost to my buttocks, without split ends, it's shiny and I get compliments all the time. My hair looks better than it did when I was 20 and why not now that I'm not overdoing it.
