I like this filter but it doesn't hold sponges in place. Most sponge filters have a later top that presses on the sponge; This allows the sponges to move up and down freely on the suction rods. This allows the sponges to be positioned where you expect them to be in the tank, requiring you to stick your hand in if you're not expecting to get the sponge(s) in the correct position. However, this is a plus considering that it is very easy to remove a sponge to clean. As long as you just take out a cleaning sponge (in tank water, not tap water) and gently place the sponge on the suction tube, this is a great filter.
