Brightness: This light has two settings, 50% and 100%. My child's room is very small so I feel it brightens the room more than if the room were bigger. Although I love this light. I keep it at 50% which allows me to change a dirty diaper in the middle of the night without using a sconce that is too dim. Operation: The switch is on the bottom of the light, so you need to select it. up to turn it on or change the brightness. I have seen several questions and answers stating that there is no battery for this flashlight. My flashlight requires 3 AAA batteries or can be plugged into the mains. It comes with a USB cable so all you need is something to plug it into to plug it into the wall. I prefer to use a cord as I leave it plugged in all night. If you damage the cable you can probably buy another somewhere else, but it's not standard, meaning it's not the kind of USB cable people typically have lying around.
