Review on JVC HAS65BNB Wireless Headphones: Noise Cancelling, Bluetooth 4.1, Bass Boost, Voice Assistant Compatible (Black) by Charles Osguthorpe

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Decent sound, good noise cancellation

These HA-S65 Bluetooth headphones sit on the bottom of JVC's expensive wireless headphones, but they sound pretty good. They pair with ease, and while they use the older Bluetooth 4.1 standard, the sound quality and range were pretty much the same as any other Bluetooth headphones I've used. Region (250-400 Hz), with or without Enhanced Bass enabled, which mainly boosts deep bass (up to 80 Hz). The bass boost is noticeable and easily accessible by pressing the same button you use to turn on the headphones. There's a beep to let you know if Bass Boost is on or off, although it's pretty obvious when you're listening to music with decent bass on a recording. The noise canceling feature is a physical slide switch that can be used when the headphones are off. Leaving this on by itself will drain the battery. You get 26 hours of battery life just using the NC alone, but once you turn on Bluetooth that drops to 11 hours, which is still very good and should get you a full day of use before needing a charge. Charging is still the same old Micro-USB cable that refuses to die. I'm still hoping to see USB-C on newer models, but companies are slow to implement it on all but their highest-end models. I mentioned that the audio was a bit muddy when listening. to audio. A little, not so bad. However, when turning on the noise reduction, I noticed that the blurriness goes away but the bass remains, so I prefer to listen to NC all the time. The volume controls and play/pause buttons are on the right earcup and take a little getting used to, but they work well if your phone isn't comfortable setting it up. Given the sub-$100 price point and the overall build and sound quality, these headphones are very good and definitely worth considering. I have used many headphones that cost more than these and they are no better. JVC has done a good job with them and in addition to the sound quality, I like their clean, understated looks. They fit my rather large head quite well, but they seem designed for smaller heads and would be suitable for children. The noise cancellation is better than expected and the overall quality is very good. I'm starting to really like the noise cancellation and miss it when using headphones that don't have that feature.
