I don't know what the wooden dowels are for
My boston terrier loves to dig and I saw a few people with these dog beds and thought they would be good for them. It came with wooden dowels to set it up like a tent which was cool but the problem with a wooden stick when you have a dog is sometimes the dog thinks it's a toy. So my dog went after the sticks as toys almost immediately and tried to gnaw through the bed itself to get at them. I removed the poles and now the tent is gone which suits me and her. But I think there might be a better way to "teen" it rather than using something that easily turns into a dog toy.
