All the descriptions on the web say it works with the Explore Air but the box only says Explore Air 2. I have the original Explore Air. However, I also have a maker, so I was willing to sacrifice air to try an overhead marker and magnetic mat. I carefully pushed the rollers aside and moved the magnets down to keep the carriage from hitting the ground. The first one, without magnet mat, with simple design, with washi, was ok. During the second test with a magnetic mat, a small piece of black plastic tore off. I don't know (yet) what the piece of plastic is for! And Foil looked very sloppy when she drew Anna Griffin's intricate drawing, but it worked great! I definitely liked the firm mat better, but I'd caution against it if you have the original Explore Air and can't "risk" the machine.
