Review on 🧲 CMS MAGNETICS Magnetic Construction Sets by Todd Worley

Same excellent quality as Swiss Geomag. Not for small children

I bought these two 108s from CMS Magnetics, as well as the smaller 44s from Geomag (made in Switzerland) and am curious about the difference in quality. I will try to compare both: Geomag (different product): Purchased 9th November, shipped from UK, arrived 27th November. CMS product (this one): Purchased 21st November, shipped from US, arrived 27th November. Similarities: - Both brands have exactly (and I mean *exactly*) the same build quality. Excellent build. stainless steel balls. Plastic rods with neodymium magnets at the ends. Differences: - (Only) on closer inspection the only visible difference I can see is the fine engravings/numbers on the bars and most importantly their length. The CMS has about 2.5 cm long rods. If I remember correctly the Geomag were just over 2 inches. In my case I have found that two sets of different lengths add versatility, but perhaps with CMS sets you can join two or more rods together to add length. In addition, the greater length of the Geomag rods leads to an increase in the overall structure, which is a little easier to "crush” under its own weight. Smaller parts in a CMS product require smaller structures (higher magnetic density per unit volume) and are therefore more stable structures. On the other hand, you need comparatively more parts to get a design of the same size. I thought this product for my little boy. I can't really imagine him playing with it until he's older (maybe 5?). He will definitely like the toy at first (he is 3 years old) but I see all the little bits scattered around the house (steel balls in particular tend to fly apart) and/or show it to a 1 year old. an older sister who can put pieces in her mouth. I would definitely recommend buying a set of 100+ unless you just want them for a desktop/office toy. From what I've read, this has happened to other buyers as well. : In the end, fathers play with the toys. But it costs money and in time I will learn to share with my son when he grows up.
