This is one of Sony's attempts to solve the picture quality problem of a so-so mobile phone. While picture quality has improved over cell phones, the best feature for me is the 10x zoom and wider angle than standard phone cameras. You also have the opportunity to get better angle shots as the camera and phone are separate so you can say hold the camera over your head while looking at the phone screen for controls. You can also control some settings, namely the zoom, from your phone. I found it fun and interesting to use, which allowed me to get some interesting shots that I wouldn't have been able to get otherwise. However, there are problems with the whole concept. The lack of a viewfinder in any form makes you completely dependent on your phone when taking photos, and more importantly, your phone's battery life. This also causes a noticeable delay in starting the whole process. The boot delay when powering on the QX10, unlocking the phone, opening the app (or pairing for NFC) and connecting takes a few seconds, during which you could already snap a picture with your phone and hand it back. your bag/purse. Another problem I encountered is that the images sent are not in full quality despite pairing. You must access it separately from an SD card or by connecting the camera to a computer. The smartphone app should allow transmission, but in my tests the transmission quality seems to be even lower. It's a good concept, but with noticeable flaws. There are issues with the lack of control over the software, it's a bit limited (namely, touch for focus and exposure), but that's normal for a camera like this. in fact, if they're better enough to overcome the hassle of having to carry them around and pair them up every time before you take a picture. I have to say that this is not the case when it comes to fighting. Camera phones are about convenience, not quality, and this makes an odd sacrifice. If you really want better quality, a smaller camera (like the Canon S110 for around the same price) is a better, faster option. I've used it to take self-portraits without having the phone at arm's length, I've put it on top of things for interesting overhead shots and other fun stuff. This is a great toy. If you can pick one up for sale or used this is a great item. It has great zoom for the size. Pros: ++ 10x zoom + Small cons: - Pairing adds too much latency. In the end I love it. Luckily I bought it as a used model for a significantly lower price of $250. In the end, I have to say it's not worth $250 considering what else is out there, even from Sony. But if you're looking for a nifty toy and are wondering what a tiny 10x zoom camera can do for fun, then go for it.
