I bought them to replace my headlights. I've already replaced the factory glazed rails in my '93 van. I wasn't overjoyed when the original parts snapped, but the ability to upgrade to LED headlights helped me quickly overcome that hassle. At this point I can say that they are significantly brighter than the "normal" sealed beam headlights (also halogen headlights) and the replacement units I replaced them with. Hoping they last longer I also bought foil to 'protect' them and as they are much brighter they more than make up for the small amount of light that would be lost through the foil coating . They plug straight into my existing ports and installation is no different than replacing a sealed beam block. I haven't tested them with an ammeter to see if they draw less current, but LEDs tend to be significantly more efficient in this regard (more light for fewer watts than incandescent) and I don't care. my generator, it's nice to know that it should work even if it starts to fall. I've had another car that I've installed HIDs in and I'm much happier with them than this one. There is no need to connect additional transformers and the light is bright enough. If you're replacing your 7x6 Sealed Beams, they're definitely a lot better (at least in my opinion).
