I have a border collie/kelpie mix that weighs just over 50 lbs. He's usually right in between a medium and a large size, depending on the brand. I didn't have a tape measure to figure out his size so I decided to play it safe and get a large bc it would be better for him to have a coat that's too large rather than too small. Keep in mind a large usually fits dogs between 50 to 100 lbs, and my dog weighs about 55 lbs. The coat I got would fit a dog that weighed maybe 40 lbs. it was definitely not a large. the velcro straps barely closed and the coat was too short on him. Because the coat was too short I couldn't fit the loops on the back over his legs, so every time he shook off or rolled around in the snow the coat would get twisted around and snow would get inside. Also the coat came with a messy seam that looked kind of ugly. If the coat was sized the way most other brands sized their clothing I probably would have given five stars. I was able to gift the coat to my aunt's dog that weighs 40lbs and it fits her perfectly, even though she's a size medium. it's a quality coat aside from the size.
