Not for metal grilles

With aluminum grilles, the door stays where you leave it; Gravity is not enough to close it as the hinges are sticky. The principle of operation of the hinge is that both the inner (pin) and outer (barrel) parts are divided into two halves. So if the frames don't connect completely, the pin will be thicker and rub against the barrel. With my metal screen, the frames protrude everywhere except for the attachment points. Below are ASCII graphics showing what the hinge should look like when viewed from top to bottom as the screen moves vertically. ( ) Glass fiber. __ (__) aluminum. I pushed out the corners near the hinge to remove it and check for a screen. wires in loops. I filed the top and bottom of the hinges (thinking the frames might not fit quite right), then greased the pins with lithium grease. Helped some, but it still won't close on its own. The second reason metal is bad is that after you cut the screen with a utility knife, you now have a lot of little wires sticking out ready to scratch or puncture your pet. I spent another half hour cutting them out or putting them back in the frame. Warning #1. Place cardboard under the bottom frame before tapping the frame with a hammer. Because the frame didn't touch the garage floor, my screen cracked at the bottom edge next to the screen door frame. Warning #2. Be careful not to move the frame too much when hitting it with a hammer. I had to make holes for the hinges a second time. The last problem I had was with the latch. It's quite flimsy, but the real problem is that the handle sticks out a bit. When I fully open the screen door, the latch handle rests in the center of the door frame.
