Review on ๐Ÿ’ป NETGEAR WG511NA Wireless G PC Card: Reliable High-Speed Internet Access by Simo Ramsey

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The card worked flawlessly for 8 years! But it doesn't support the new WPA2 encryption.

This NetGear card has served me well in my 11 year old XP laptop. I think this card originally came out about 10 years or more ago. I personally have been using one of these cards for 8 years. However, since it is old, it does not support the newer WPA2 encryption protocol. It uses the older, less secure WEP encryption. So when I recently moved house and upgraded to the latest and greatest Verizon router with WPA2 encryption, my old laptop suddenly stopped connecting to this wireless card. So I had to get rid of her after many, many years of faithful service. I ordered a newer Panda Wireless N USB card that supports WEP, WPA and WPA2 (and newer protocols) and BOOM! I am back online! Well, even though that thing came out 10 years ago, and even though I can't use it anymore. I'm amazed this NetGear card has worked for me for so long. It's old and dated now, but it was definitely a 5 star product in its day. So as long as you don't need WPA2 encryption, this thing will work great.
