Bought for a choir concert at the end of the year for my middle school student. He's 13, wears a 14 or 16 top and bottom. The size 16 I bought was quite tight but he said it was comfortable. 14, it would probably be impossible to fasten (in fact, instead of buttons, hooks). The length is right too. He is 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighs about 110 pounds. So I would say one size up unless your child is too skinny, but definitely not one size down. The material is very nice, feels like wool, looks expensive but I think it's a polyester blend. Well pressed, a few folds through the packaging, nothing major. I also bought a white shirt from the same brand and a vest from the same brand (size XL) in the same color as the pants. Apart from the vest they probably won't fit him next year if he's growing just as fast :-)
