I did a lot of research before I bought any stainless steel cookware. So I came from a nonstick cookware that was long in need of replacement, so I started researching ALL types of cookware. I chose stainless steel for a number of reasons, the main one being health. Let me just say I've looked at everything from $200 to $1000. From Costco offerings to Revain and independent labels. Things I didn't even think of when I first started looking became important over time - like easily pourable lips, ovenability when needed, thick rounded handles for easy handling, etc. As a result, a few pioneers remained - Emeril from All-Clad and this kit after many hours of research. What attracted me were the additional features like measuring lines in the pots, the overall look and design of the cookware. Before I get into the pros and cons, I want to mention for those who haven't read enough. Stainless steel reviews that there are some things you should know about cooking with stainless steel. First you need to preheat the pans. There are videos on youtube - look for a stainless steel mercury ball - that teach you how to properly heat pots and then add oil and prevent sticking. Also, let your cold food warm up a bit before throwing it in the pan, as this also greatly reduces overcooking. Another tip: these pans are hotter than non-stick pans. So if you are used to cooking with a non-stick coating, you need to reduce it a bit. Cleaning - that's a lot of people will complain about - and if you're not doing the things above AND you're not doing some important things then the complaints are understandable. If you have leftovers in the pot, soak them in very hot water. Once the water has cooled to lukewarm, pour it out leaving the pan just damp, use a stainless steel cleaning pad along with a bartender friend and it couldn't be easier. For this dish. I LOVE IT. We've been using this set for a little over a month. Pros: - Beautiful - really chic set - Comfortable, large handles - this was paramount in our decision - Internal markings for measurements - Interchangeable lids so each item can be covered if necessary - No problem removing the lid when heating ( read reviews of other cookware where it was difficult/dangerous to remove the lids from the cookware as they would be sucked in) - Good, even heating - No metallic taste leaching into the food - Relatively easy to clean if you think so Follow the advice above in this section. I don't like it at the moment. It's almost in the middle of the price range of the kits I've looked at. In terms of features and quality I think this is a fantastic purchase. I think I'd probably be happy with the Emeril set too, but the grips didn't look that comfortable and I wanted to make this a one-time purchase for years to come - so why not get exactly what you want? can highly recommend this set. If you're on the fence about learning too much - this is a great set that I fully support.
