very pretty, but not very functional

I was immediately attracted to this watering can when I saw a picture of it. The bronze color and the overall shape had a pretty, old-timey look, and it seemed to have nice features, such as the hinged handle that would be good for carrying a heavy, water-filled can, and a removable spray nozzle. Unfortunately a brief exploration of the can in action pointed out a number of issues that limit its usefulness, IMHO.First and foremost, you can't really fill the can to nearly its potential maximum volume, because of a dysfunctional design that puts the end of the pour nozzle well below the level of the top of the can. This is illustrated by the attached photos. These feature the Megawoder on the right and a cheap, plastic watering can of similar size, also obtained via Walmart, on the left. First, look at the photo with the nozzle not attached. The horizontal line across the top of the two cans shows the theoretical maximum height you could fill the can with water if there weren't a pour spout. Now look at the highest points of the pour spouts in relation to that line. You can see that it is possible to fill the green plastic can to the line without water pouring out the spout, while with the Megawoder water will gush out of the pour spout long before you fill the can. That's the story of the cans when stationary. It gets worse if you try to CARRY a full can. With the green plastic can, the narrow pour spout, in addition to the "high" spout end, limit the risk of splashing water on the floor or furniture as you carry it. In contrast, the wide pour spout of the Megawoder leads to spills even when you fill the can to just below the line. And of course its already not "full", because even stationary water gushes out if you try to fill it above the line. The result is a can that may be billed as "1 gallon" capacity by virtue of the volume of the cylindrical can, but in fact can't practically be filled to much above a half gallon. That means many more trips back and forth from the water source. In the other picture you can see that the situation is somewhat improved if you add the spray nozzle, but the top of the nozzle is still just even with the top of the can, again limiting how full you can practically fill it. While the spray nozzle is a classic feature of a watering can and completes the classic look of the Megawoder, it is in some ways imperfect or impractical for many real world situations. If you are watering house plants, for example, you may want to water the soil rather than pour water over the leaves of the plant, in order to avoid run-off onto furniture and floor. Outside, you may still prefer watering the soil under the plant, rather than the leaves of the plant, since some of the water on the leaves stays on the leaves, only to evaporate and possibly leave a fertilizer residue to boot. Finally, without the spray nozzle the pour spout of the Megawoder is rather wide, and delivers quite a lot of water, which gives you less control over watering smaller plants in smaller pots in particular (note the narrow pour spout of the green plastic watering can in the pictures, for comparison). So while fixing the spray nozzle may allow you to carry more water without spilling, there are some significant downsides that at least some plant enthusiasts may encounter.I should mention also that the spray nozzle is a little tricky to install, with the threads just barely able to engage as you turn it onto the spout.I really wanted to like this product, but sadly I just can't give it a high recommendation. It may be a better fit for outside watering jobs, where splashing of water is less of a problem, but for houseplants I would never use it.The product is made in China.I obtained this item at no cost as a Vine reviewer. My review is honest and objective, the same as if I had paid for the product. Thus, to mid-July 2022 I have reviewed 40 self-purchased products and awarded 68% of them a "5”. I have reviewed 59 VINE products and awarded 73% of them a "5”.
