Review on ASUS ZenBook 13 Thunderbolt UX325JA XB51 by Michael Schafer

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Total disappointment

Looks like cheap junk. There isn't a single aspect of the system that makes you feel like you've bought something quality. Completely disappointed in this car. Pros: Battery life is good and easy to carry. Cons: Feels and works like something worth $150. it feels like it's going to tear. You couldn't even open the lid easily. It's like they didn't think of actually using it. The display is mediocre at best. Sitting next to my 5 year old surface is significantly worse. The quality of the camera is so bad that it's frankly unusable. Seriously, I couldn't stress enough how bad it is. Extensive pixelation, poor light output, poor color rendering, that's all. You can buy a child's toy with a MUCH better quality camera. (Yes, I actually have a kid's toy with a camera that's much better.) The trackpad's response to touch seems to vary for the effort required. Sometimes it's on, the next minute it's off. When the number pad is open, the normal operation of the trackpad is severely disrupted. So, you basically get one or the other, and if you don't have a mouse, that's going to be a problem. This eliminates the numeric keypad as a feature. The keyboard feels like a toy. Difficult to use and makes the experience frustrating. Key travel is ridiculously long, keystroke is excessive, the power button is right where the delete key would normally be, so you keep pressing it accidentally. Customer service responds to emails within 48 hours. about a new purchase. wow Not even a touch screen which I don't think I saw on the list. Who makes a non-touchscreen Windows machine? The SD card reader is upside down. I nearly ripped up the card trying to figure out what was wrong. There is even a picture next to the port that shows the map for the port WRONG. If you're going to include an image, at least make it useful! Other ports, like USB-C, feel flimsy and the connectors wobble when inserted. I could go on, but basically the whole car is cheap junk. I can't believe ASUS gets this kind of feedback. Maybe I'm spoiled by having a Surface before. But I expected the car to be much better. So disappointed about that. I will most likely return.

Pros
  • Built-in IR camera for facial recognition, Windows Hello login
Cons
  • Sad packaging
