I purchased a single memory foam bed for our guest room marked medium firm. Due to sleep issues, my husband and I sometimes have to sleep separately, so we both slept on the extra bed for a significant amount of time. Obviously there was a difference in determining the firmness of the bed. There was no way to send the bed back so we both hated the memory foam bed. I then did some research and added this 4 inch memory foam topper to our overly hard memory foam bed. Aside from having to buy new sheets, we love this mattress topper. This mattress topper actually makes this once-too-hard bed nice, soft, and really comfortable to sleep on. (The original mattress was already quite thick, but not soft enough for us, so when we added this mattress pad, the sheets didn't fit anymore). notice a particularly strong odor. I have also used the mattress protection system as protection against dust mites and bed bugs that ruin our bed. For those concerned about exhaust odors, perhaps a mattress cover can help keep the odor at bay. I don't have a very strong sense of smell so this idea might help people with sensitive noses.
