Review on Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L USM lens, black by Xun Qu ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Just super, the product is made wonderfully, very satisfied.

I would like to believe that Canon's L series is flawless . but alas, this is not entirely true. But in general, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. A small (~ 1 mm) backlash of the focus ring is noticeable. The backlash is very small, but the fingers feel it - in a lens for such a price it is quite annoying, the design of Soviet lenses seems to be stronger, more reliable and everything moves more smoothly (although I can’t vouch for the sensations, all this is already half-erased memories). XA at f / 1.2, when shooting high-contrast objects, they are simply terrible. But there is a plus - the depth of field on such a diaphragm is very small and not everyone needs this. In my opinion - a more usable aperture for this lens: from f / 1.8 or even f / 2.0.

Pros
  • A large aperture that allows you to do interesting things. The most pleasant drawing. For today and a similar weight, very fast autofocus. Typical L-series buns: solidity (with the exception of the focus ring) design, USM with good autofocus, FTM.
Cons
  • Weak focus ring backlash, terrible HA at full aperture. The price, in my opinion, is overpriced by 300-400 dollars. For some, the weight of half a kilogram will be a big drawback, especially when choosing a hardy, but lightweight, tripod.
