Does not detect motion properly

I wanted something to put outside my entrance door to detect motion when approached. So I put it inside the glass enclosure which the bulb goes and put a lamp on it. Unfortunately, it does not detect motion at all and only I could turn it on if my enter my finger into the enclosure. Tried to change the LUX settings but it did not make any difference. I am going to return it unfortunately. Waste of valuable time.
