I've been trying to get HP cartridges to work in my printer for over a month. The only solution is to use cartridges refilled at your local printer ink store. I was told that HP changed the firmware update in 2017 so these generic replacement cartridges will no longer work. Apparently her plan backfired a bit. Spent five hours on the phone, sent four different black cartridges for four weeks, one after the other, none worked. HP was successfully sued, they lost, and then sent out new firmware but didn't advance the patch. I was told I need to buy a new printer. If you are having trouble replacing cartridges, the problem is not with the cartridges, it is with the firmware. This was intentional, their tech support rep confirmed this and told me that "at this point I have been instructed to let you know that this is a hardware issue and you will need to purchase a new printer". I took out the new cartridge and put in the old cartridge and the printer worked fine. The same happens with all color cartridges.
