The problem was that the gauges on the dashboard were not showing properly. Lighting IOW "part timeβ in 2WD, no light in 4-high or 4-low. The transfer case works as expected. Now all ads show correctly. At first glance, this is an intimidating fix, but many videos online can help you with it. I decided to remove the center console route. It was pretty easy and I bet you still need to do some cleaning in there. Incidentally, you will need a deep 1-1/2" socket for removal and installation.
