My mother-in-law gave me something very similar that she bought at a local store in Washington. She said it was the best sponge she's ever had and (although I scoffed at the idea of a gifted sponge) I now understand why she was so excited about it. This lasted 10 months (yes, MONTHS) in a house with 2 adults and a teenager! It took 6 months to smell bad and then I threw it in the dishwasher and everything was fine. I thought it was a miracle sponge because my hands/dishes/sink never smelled like "old wet sponge". I bought them because I thought they were similar - at least they looked the same. Not so. For ONE week the sponge and everything it touched smelled awful. After 3 weeks it started to crumble. So disappointing. It's coming back as I try out a small company made here in the USA. Maybe they are the same as my mother-in-law's. Such a small thing, but what a difference!
