Review on πŸ”§ Upgrade your 2012-2013 MacBook Pro with Retina Display: OWC 1.0TB Aura Pro 6G SSD and Envoy Pro Upgrade Kit (OWCS3DAP12KT01) by Joshua Donnis

Revainrating 5 out of 5

In a few minutes MBP 2013 (A1398) has been upgraded to TB. Fast and easy!

Unlike some other computers, a seven-year-old MacBook Pro can still be quite usable. I was fine with the car but encountered storage restrictions. Mine was the last model before they switched to NVM drives, but upgrading the memory was still a lot cheaper than replacing the system. I wish this product was priced more competitively, but it's one of the few that manages power properly. So I was fine with spending a premium to keep my (previously premium) system running well on battery power. The update itself is very simple. The tools are included and the videos make it practical. When the bottom section is removed, there is literally a screw left for the upgrade itself. I chose the version that included an external case out of laziness. I could have made a (different) Time Machine backup and restored it over WiFi, but by putting the old drive in an external enclosure and running system restore to copy the drive, I have the entire 128GB in about ten minutes postponed. I didn't have to manually mess with partition tables or think too much about it. The update was easy and the result is flawless. Now I have an external SSD, which is handy for transferring projects to and from client machines.

Pros
  • Easy to set up
Cons
  • Not bad
