Review on Lacis Drop Spindle Natural Wood by Jessica Lewis

My first spindle

Just spun my first homespun on the same spindle. The wood is smooth and very pretty (I'll try to upload a better photo if I can) and it worked great once I figured it all out, but the curl is way bigger than any I've seen and special heavy as others have mentioned. The weight didn't bother me too much as a beginner, but I did struggle with the spindle falling off at times because the fiber wasn't always held securely by a small notch. I think it was probably mostly my inexperience, but I suspect the weight didn't help either. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but I can't help but wondering if I would have the same problem using a hook spindle. Still, I will always respect this spindle as my first, but I can't wait to try the others. Also importantly, when my spindle arrived, the shank wasn't wide enough at the bottom to prevent the whorl from falling off. I could literally slide the swivel down the shaft and take it off. I secured it with a small piece of fabric, but it still slipped a bit when I rotated; From time to time I had to readjust. Although I seem to be the only one having this problem. I would contact the manufacturer but to be honest I was too eager to start spinning! All in all I thought this wasn't a bad spindle for a beginner. Maybe not great, but not bad either.
