For as long as I can remember I've had a ruler taped to the front edge of my desk (I'm a seamstress), but the previous one was covered in a layer of plastic that will peel off over time. After replacing it several times, the product was no longer available, so I looked elsewhere. I wish I had bought the Starrett Measure Stix in the first place! There's no clutter of plastic and at 1/2 inch wide it has a slimmer profile that looks better and takes up less space. It appears to be made of thin metal - very durable! After months of daily use (as hands and fabric constantly rub against it) there has been no peeling or fading which is fantastic! The only downside is that the adhesive doesn't cover the full width of the tape, so the paper sometimes gets stuck, which is no more than annoying at worst. .
