When I first received these sheets I wasn't overly impressed. When I took them out of the box and unwrapped them they had a very strong manufacturing/packaging odor and felt prickly and chewy. Since then I've washed them 3 times and they've gotten a little softer (no fabric softener). Now they are smooth soft and pliable. They also seem to hold up well in the wash, have no loose seams, and wrinkle less straight out of drying than the more expensive cotton sheets I've bought from Bloomingdales (but note: they're not completely wrinkle-free). Overall, they're thick, durable, comfortable, and cool to the touch. The number of cotton threads 500 seems to be accurate. I'm actually glad I didn't send them back.
