They are much thinner than expected. The "rope" is a thin plastic sheath over the light wire. I used them outdoors. The plug was weatherproof, but the bulbs were not. I'm assuming it's approved for outdoor use. The remote control was difficult to understand but I looked at other reviews and came to an acceptable understanding. In the end these headlights were fine but they broke within 1 month. I was so angry at spending so much time installing them that I threw them in the trash. I was supposed to return but unfortunately my temper got out of control. Don't buy if you want something permanent.
