The wood is thick and heavy for such a small part. The ceramic is also very thick, I ran out of liquid a couple of times and my candle kept burning (oh no!) but the ceramic didn't crack or look crappy. I continued to use it and was more careful with my suppositories and liquids. I either use distilled water and essential oils for a subdued scent or I buy Hosley scented liquid which works even better and the scent fills the room and hallway. I really like this burner, with good care I think it will last a long time. I like the little extra tray that comes with it to hold a candle holder if needed, but I use it as a platter to rest my discarded matches on. Thus it has multiple uses. Very happy with this purchase!
