Review on Protein Vanilla Replacement Superfoods Carlyle by Michael Caldwell

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Decent taste with satisfactory density

I recently received this protein powder for review. By consuming many protein powders, both dairy and plant-based, I have a wide range of powders to compare against. This Carlyle powder is pretty good. It doesn't taste like Orgain products but reminds me of Vega products in texture, grain and taste. It also shares some similarities in texture and flavor to the Purely Inspired range of plant-based protein powders. However, Carlyle powder will thicken when mixed with the recommended amount of liquid. I mixed 1 scoop with 6 ounces of water and found it too thick for me. When mixed with 8oz it was a bit thinner and I liked it better. The flavor is definitely plant-based vanilla protein powder, and if you drink it immediately after mixing it gets gritty. Leave it on for a few minutes and the graininess will be significantly reduced. As for the clumping, I wasn't able to smooth it out with a simple spoon, but in a shaker (not a mixer ball) it mixed perfectly without clumping. Aftertaste, it's not unpleasant. The powder is quite sweet, which may not be to everyone's liking, but when mixed with a small amount of liquid, it does decrease. I also really like that it has different vegetable proteins, although the main protein comes from peas, which adds grains of sand. This powder has a good profile of vitamins and minerals, which adds to its value and health benefits. However, if you are already consuming these vitamins, you should look elsewhere. I like it as a breakfast drink and it works great for me until lunch with a feeling of satisfaction without bloating. Good protein but a bit pricey at current price compared to more well known brands.
