
Yes, GM should have done this from the factory. But General will do whatever it takes to save five cents in total cost per million vehicles. Installation on the 2011 Yukon XL is easy. First remove the small gray plastic piece on the front of the center console. Then loosen the three 7mm screws holding the black sheath. The third screw is easiest to access with a 1/4 ratchet and a 7mm deep socket. You see the part that needs to be cut off. Can't miss. It has grooves. The easiest way is to use a lighter and heat the razor blade. Then insert it into the grooves in an even slice. Heat knife, cut between the lines. Warm up the knife, cut, heat, cut, etc. Eventually you will break through. It will take a while but I've found that a hot knife works better than anything else and leaves a clean cut. If it's dirty, consider getting a condenser cleaner and do it while you're there. A filter that you must "break" so that it folds over and can be inserted into the slot. I put essential oils on my fragrance filter. After inserting the filter, put the filter door on and screw it tight. Put on the black protective cover. I left the hard screw on the sheath because I didn't want to mess with it, and the sheath isn't going anywhere with the other two screws holding it in place. Put the gray piece back on and you're done. I don't know if less air gets through or not, but now the air needs to be filtered and it smells like orange oil.
