Vibrant colors and great results!

Wow! I bought it during Prime Day for only $13. I am an art student and use many quality brands such as Prismacolor, Winser and Newton colored pencils and watercolor pencils. I decided to take the plunge and say "why not?" to these pens since the price was so low. You will not feel any pain. When it arrived the package was fine. The box that comes with it is quite long but that didn't bother me too much as it can present all the colors with ease. All pencils arrived in perfect condition, none of them broke as stated by some other reviews. Most of the flaws I have aren't major issues, but I want to point them out. Also, on the picture with all the sample names, it's just the markings I gave them for this review/personal use. CONS: - My main issue is the colors that come in this set. There are actually only two pure reds, 10a and 11a, and 10a is actually more of a salmon or coral color. There is also only one bright orange, 13a. All other "oranges" are just variations of peach or tan. And here's the problem; I REALLY want more oranges and I wouldn't be short on oranges IF there were more reds. If there were more reds I could easily mix colors or use water to make orange variations. It seems to me that there are many colors that look very similar, especially green, blue and turquoise have very similar tones. The same goes for purple and pink. Again, I really wish these similar colors were just replaced with reds, oranges, browns, and grays. Maybe adding some metallic colors would be nice. The really big problem for an orderly freak like me is that the handles aren't labeled! They have neither names nor numbers! Now I have to label them all myself so I can reference them on my pattern sheet. That relates to the above, isn't a big deal, but a few colors can be misleading due to crayon and what actually comes up again. This can be solved with a sample sheet and *ahem* organization. It's very small, but when you apply the paint very heavily, it's a bit difficult to use water and mix it. I solved this problem by simply covering the area I want to cover with water first and gently applying the paint. PROS: The brightness of some of these colors is amazing! Judging by the horrible photos I took of the specimen and Rapunzel (my favorite Disney princess!) I can't really say. The purple color impressed me the most, so I decided to draw Rapunzel. It blends very easily, and when you apply wet paint with a pencil, it almost looks like you're about to get a tattoo or something (although I've/have never had one). The blending and layering effect is endless! - Aside from the red and orange colors, the color choices are really good! I didn't need darker pencils, but after testing them I used them a lot. Good selection and *most* I have the colors I need. - After drying, the color becomes smooth and comfortable. Some cheap watercolors often come out tacky, powdery, and streaky. It's the other way around. It's a little pro, but the two brushes that come with it aren't bad. I decided to use these brushes instead of my fancy ones for review purposes. The brush has a fairly thin tip when wet and is capable of picking up fine detail. The bristles are not long, giving you good control. I wouldn't use them for really big tasks as they are small. TIPS: - BUY WATERCOLOR PAPER. I hear so many complaints in reviews about the paper curling and tearing. Yes of course! If you use regular paper, it's the same as just pouring water on it. Watercolor paper is not very expensive and IS ESSENTIAL FOR BARGAINING WATERCOLOR PAINTINGS, whatever the brand of paint. In fact, I wouldn't buy it just for ordinary crayons. They are very soft (as to be expected) and will break if you want to close something completely. If you don't like/don't have enough watercolor leveling paper, don't buy it. GENERAL - Very good quality brushes at a great price! A very wide range of bright colors and the result is really outstanding.

Pros

Cons

Good but not AMAZING for the price. A smart investment, though.
