Claiming 5 Gb/s 2A compatible, this adapter lets you extend the length of your USB 3 cable. I have several devices in this class ranging from long runs to scanners, mice and keyboards. (Usually some weird wiring issue around shelves or furniture). They work great as long as the overall cable length doesn't get too crazy. The USB specification tells you what the maximum length is; I would subtract 20% if you're running a powerful or high-end scenario like a UHD monitor or an external SSD. In other words, it is a non-power ("passive") device. I'm happy to have it in my USB toolbox and use it right away by plugging the computer into a UPS a few racks away.
