Wow. For the first time since I started wearing Brooks in 2008, I've found a pair I couldn't wear. Since switching from Adrenaline about 5 years ago (I had plantar fasciitis for several years which I couldn't explain to myself until I was told my arches are too normal for Adrenaline) I have been using and buying the Levitate 1, 2 and 3 about 2-3 per year. When I ran out of my last Brooks Levitates while serving in Afghanistan, I returned to Revain to replace them with the next generation of the same size. About a month later I got the 4s and wore them throughout the day for about a week to get them going before using them in my regular workouts. Within 2 days of running, biking, and lifting weights, I developed a blister on the back of my right heel and a hot spot on the back of my left heel. After another 2 days my left knee started to develop early patellar tendonitis (I'm a doctor and see/treat this condition several times a week). I slowed down my running pace (from 4-6 miles a day to 4 miles walking pace) and started doing eccentric stretches for a few days. At this point there were more blisters than I wanted and I was starting to realize that the only difference from last week was in the shoes, so I went back to my old Levitate 3 boots since no more knee pain. Heel which I believe caused friction that led to a blister. The sole of the shoe looks the same, but I'm clearly not reacting to it right away. I hope you have a better experience than me. But for me it's not.
