Review on Kuhn Rikon Swiss Peeler Red by Arlene Byrd

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Like others, I was initially impressed with Carbon.

I ordered this knife based on the great reviews. Unfortunately, this knife did not live up to expectations. Like others, I was initially impressed with the carbon steel blade, but I didn't realize that carbon steel required a lot of maintenance. The moment I used this peeler and put it on the top shelf in the dishwasher everything was covered in rust when I took it out. A pain that needs to be washed away, if I had known this I would have chosen a different brand. I did a little research and found that the preference for carbon steel blades is because they are the easiest to sharpen (NOT THAT THEY STAY SHARP THAN OTHER METALS). So unless you plan to sharpen this knife, caring for carbon steel is impractical. In addition, this cleaner is not as smooth as others who have left reviews have told me. Peeling potatoes with this thing was nerve wracking. I was afraid I would slip and cut my hand because the cut itself was very difficult to get through. The only benefit is that this knife is relatively small so I can keep it in my junk drawer in case I accidentally lose another, better knife that I need to replace :(

Pros
  • Kitchen and dining room
Cons
  • I have nothing to fault, everything is fine
