Problems and Solutions CX 5

I used this roof rack on a 2017 Mazda CX 5 for a 10 hour 3 mountain bike ride in the mountains of North Carolina. My car had dents underneath, but I don't think it's the trunk. A nice man tightened the seat belts while filling up with gas, after which my car was crushed. My recommendation: Do not use the metal rings on the side of the trunk to attach the floor straps, but leave the anchor hooks on the trunk floor according to the installation instructions. Pay CAREFUL attention to the placement of the bottom bar foam (where he says "a good fit looks like this" in the video); The bottom of the foam should not be resting on any surface. For my car, be sure to put it in the license plate. Tighten the top straps to set the bottom foam in place, then tighten the bottom straps. We found it difficult to simply lift the handlebars and select the hub. When you turn the middle dial, it stops and it takes a little more pressure to get to the unlocked position. When installing bikes, ignore the orientation of the chain on the first bike and focus on the orientation of the stabilizer bracket relative to the bike. I ran a stabilizer strap through all three bikes to keep the wheels from spinning. Also a seat belt to protect the trunk from theft: I couldn't get it through the trunk slot, it was too thick. I'll try again if I'm not in a hurry. It was raining heavily when the bikes were installed and I had no water seepage into the cargo area (because that gap doesn't exist I guess!). I have to say that I felt very comfortable with the suitcase on the way home. I didn't have to tighten the straps even when they got wet. I think one person can install easily. I held the handstand with my body while pulling the top straps through, then I could do the bottom straps while the rack was held by the top straps. I find the materials to be of high quality. If the zippers break, I think it's because they aren't pulled straight out. I had a bike with unusual handlebars, but it fit well. I had no damage to the ceiling or the cargo area. I was only traveling with two 15 year olds so this set up and this trip was a big worry for me. I hope this review helps anyone else who is concerned. This is a good buy, I can't think of a better shelf.
