They have a special purpose/place

This is a review of cheaper welding goggles. The ones without adjustments. I think they have a place in your welding cabinet for very specific situations. I do most of the welding work lying on my back under a jacked up car. Sometimes it's impossible to find a spot where I can see a weld in a helmet. I used to have to adjust the burner according to the old scheme, turn my head, close my eyes and pull the trigger. And it will always end up with a slightly misplaced weld and all the other bad things that come with welding without a helmet. With these goggles you can at least see where the welding is going on. I use a Nomex balaclava (flame retardant) and my face is still not 100% protected. Also, make sure your welding work is done at arm's length and not nearby. That being said, the goggles are surprisingly comfortable and, barring fogging, very clear. There were times I even forgot I was wearing them. Just be careful! This is not a replacement for a regular helmet and I would not recommend it for beginners. Your eyes may be protected from the light, but a flash of sweat will sunburn you painfully in seconds, and the slag will burn the skin on your face. Enjoy.
