This tape is 0.5mm thick and has a thick plastic coating with a thick self-adhesive backing that sticks like butyl tape but comes off cleanly. A thick backing is not only an adhesive, but also a padding. I have used it for photo props and cosplay because it is so durable and looks like high tech. It will not remove paint etc from a well sealed or permanent surface. For example, it won't remove car paint or leave marks, but it will ruin painted drywall. The right tape for the right job. The base can be thick but the sides/edges are not sticky. If you've ever used VHB tape, you know the sides are sticky too - not with this tape. But - it will not hide flaws and will not cling to rust. The surface must be clean, dry and as smooth as possible. When it's removed it won't stick well so make sure you put it where you want it!
