We have two of these gates and they are perfect for our needs. We have two Great Dane puppies and we got them not to let them in our room when we don't want them there and still see them in the living room. Love that you don't always have to use the red safety catch, we don't have kids so it's a lot easier when our dogs can't figure out how to push the handle up. I also like that the door stays open by itself so they can come back anytime I want them to have access to our room. Each gate came with an extension but when we tried to install a gate with an extension we had to wedge it and then the latch didn't work so we used it without and the hold downs are right on the end so that Tor moves a bit, but it's still nowhere. They won't escape unless one of our dogs tries to plow them, but they're not strong with gates/boxing. Be sure to measure the door frame to ensure the extensions will fit the gate. When the ends of the gate are closer to the frame, the gate is stronger. The minimum width without an extension is 29 inches and the maximum is 34 inches (we have that and the hold down legs certainly couldn't be extended further). The minimum width with the extension is 35 inches (but I'd say 36 inches so you can tighten the hold downs a bit and adjust the cups) and the maximum width is probably around 40-41 inches. The cups were very easy to assemble. to install. I just drilled a pilot hole and then screwed them to the frame with a drill. Overall this is a very stable baby gate and the extra height is perfect for older children or children who are taller or if you have large dogs or sweaters.
