I gifted this to my 10 year old nephew but he wasn't able to do it on his own, he and his grandpa worked on it and grandpa had to use some hot glue guns to make some of it work because it apparently is missing pieces and the instructions aren't clear and all the pieces aren't present! If that's OK, then yes, my nephew LOVED it once it was working and would use his hand to block the solar panels to make it stop. He loved seeing that work! But according to them, the instructions refer to pieces that aren't shipped to get things to fit together that otherwise don't. So I would not recommend this unless figuring out bad instructions is part of the fun for your giftee.
