It's been over 10 years since I've done any computer upgrades. I think XP was still the dominant OS when I last opened my computer to do some work. I've made a habit of buying new ones every few years and throwing them away. I've been shopping for new laptops for the last few months and reading their Revain reviews caught the recurring theme of installing a good SSD with a clean copy of Windows on a brand new computer. I started doing it myself and started reading about these Crucial SSDs. I figured I'd just upgrade my existing laptop (HP 15-af131dx), the little BX500 was only $28. So if I wasn't happy, I could just go with the original plan and buy a new laptop. Accessibility was a bit difficult due to the cheap construction of this HP, but I managed it on my coffee table in less than 15 minutes. I had a clean copy of Windows 10 on a flash drive, I put it in and turned it on. The installer ran right away and I immediately realized how fast this SDD was. It only took a few minutes to install, and over the past few hours I've been reinstalling and trying out frequently used apps. "Surprised" doesn't even begin to describe how I feel. Now everything goes fast. I can't believe I haven't done this before. I went ahead and ordered new RAM (although I don't think I really need it) and will be installing it later this week and no longer need to buy a new laptop. That $28 shot in the dark ended up saving me hundreds of dollars on a new car. I couldn't be happier. Without a doubt the best money I've spent this year.
