I thought it would be much thicker than this one. I used to buy a more expensive brand and it was very thick and very sharp all over. There's no way I could have used this without heavy plastic gloves and a pair of heavy scissors. When I opened this package I saw a pair of thin latex gloves and I knew I wouldn't get the same quality. The steel wool is very thin, so I had to overlap it several times to get the right thickness I wanted to use in the home's ventilation. It's still hard to cut even with heavy duty scissors, but it looks like a different brand. I don't know how well this would work because I think rodents could easily pull it out and it wouldn't hurt their mouths. I was able to handle it without the gloves that came with it. My hands would be ripped off by any other brand! But it was a lot cheaper than the other brand, so I guess the old adage "you get what you pay for" is true here. It should still work so I think for the price it would be worth it. It's great for filling small holes and cracks, but for larger holes like air vents you'll end up using twice as much as a more expensive brand.
