Review on LAUNCH Enhanced Universal Automotive Function by Ryan Carter

Revainrating 5 out of 5

There were a lot more features than I expected!

When someone's check engine light comes on in their car, they already know that garages charge over $50-60 just to get a code for a quick diagnostic check. Generally, a dealer or mechanic you have a good relationship with will, in good faith, apply that cost to the actual repair, but more often than not, simple problems (eg, sensor replacement, loose wiring connections) can be diagnosed and fixed in the garage at home. . With this particular device, you can retrieve these codes, conveniently view them in the onboard database, track key vehicle parameters, and perform simple diagnostic procedures to find and fix problems with your vehicle. My check engine light came on. on my car a few weeks ago and I was looking for a similar unit and found this one that fits my price range. And although it has already paid for itself in one day of ownership! I was able to find and clean the code, find the problem in the car and apply a quick fix to solve it. Here are the pros -1. Simple and clear interface with operating instructions directly on the device2. No separate charger or battery is required as the device is powered directly from the OBD3 connector. Database of fault codes right on the device for easy retrieval (some codes are proprietary and may not be available but very easy to find in the vehicle's service manual or with a simple google search)4. Ability to monitor important vehicle parameters and log data and transfer this data to a PC via the serial port and the supplied USB cable. Disadvantages -1. The product looks solid and somewhat sturdy, but feels light and plasticky to the touch. It has nothing to do with the functionality of the product. But a bit more weight for the body and the rubber grips go a long way towards giving this product a "premium" feel. The contact switches below the keys are a bit stiff and in the middle, so that you have to be exactly in the middle of the key with a little more pressure to recognize the input. (compared to other devices you might get used to). However, these are small blemishes that do not affect the overall functionality of the product in any way. I will post an additional review in about 6 months to add comments on the durability of the product. Until then 5 stars!
