MikroTik is a serious contender to replace Cisco 1900, 2900 and 3900 series routers and even newer Cisco series routers. Packets per second and total throughput with lower CPU utilization. While there's more to the Cisco Enterprise Feature Set than MikroTik, if you're using the Cisco Basic IP license and even a security license, you'll find pretty much everything you need in MikroTik CCR. It will take some time to get used to, but you will be rewarded. The only disadvantage of this platform is the connection to the global network. MikroTik cannot install modems, T1 cards, etc. It's Ethernet only, but they don't intentionally limit performance like Cisco has done for years. If you can have T1 delivered to Ethernet over Adtran or similar with MetroEthernet and Internet connections, you have a great opportunity to get really high performance at a lower price than Cisco. I've been using Cisco since the 90's and use them in small, medium and large deployments, but sometimes you just want something with better performance at a great price. MikroTik was the best solution. We have large network installations of over 30 MikroTik routers, from the smallest to the CCR, and we are very satisfied.
