For narrow wall boxes
There are narrow, medium and wide wall boxes and if you are trying something thick like a decent dimmer or a Installing the motor control fan in a narrow box does not close the front panel flush with the wall. Too much space in the box. Unfortunately, most home builders use narrow or medium sized boxes in the home since the walls are typically only 4 to 5 inches thick and the boxes are cheaper. Without that "cheat" that closes the gap between the bezel and the box, there would be a visible gap. and potential electrical hazards.
