Like most of us I wanted to try adding "LAMPS" to my stereo circuit without spending a lot of money and got these. I was very skeptical about adding a $45 preamp between the expensive DAC (Topping D90) and power amp (Hypex Ncore), but it worked so well I can't figure it out now. ) is connected directly to the power amp, but I always lacked the tone controls in my setup. My setup: PC & TV >> DAC (Topping D90) >> PreAmp (Aiyima Tube Preamp) >> Power Amp (Hypex Ncore) >> Speakers (Paradigm Monitor SE 6000F) - It does something you can feel with jazz, Guitar, soft and soulful music. Definitely worth experimenting with as you might like the softness and yes I switched to GE JAN 5654W bulbs. Didn't think I would use the tone control but damn it helps. A slight boost in the treble can bring out old, not-so-good recordings, which is very useful for listening at low volumes. - Bass and treble boost correct frequency range, verified by me with UMIK-1 and REW measurements. - This is active preamp, my measurements showed about 9 -10 dB gain. You know that a 3dB gain is twice the output power, giving you a 2x to 3x increase in overall power compared to your current system. I'm not that into tubes yet, but different tubes can produce different sounds. Changing the hose is easy. Comes with a 3.5mm to RCA cable, mine comes with a high quality CHOSEAL cable :). Useful for connecting a TV or phone to a preamp. The unit is well built, doesn't feel cheap at all, volume/bass/treble controls seem to be of good quality. and power amplifier like me. - No remote control. - If you position the volume slider around 10am you won't get "no boost" so leave it there if you don't want to add/remove volume boost. Cases used: - If you want to try tubes, try what people mean by "WARM LAMP SOUND". - When you need a preamp or line level boost to deliver the signal to the power amp. No need to upgrade the power amp, very cheap price to get 9-10dB again. - To have tone control - BASS / TREBLE in the chain. - Can be used directly with TV/TV Box/Phone/Music Player, DAC, etc. People spend hundreds on cables alone, this option is not difficult. PS: When I turned it off, my device cracked, I contacted the seller and got a new one that doesn't have such problems.
