Much better sound quality than expected - flashy design

I was honestly surprised by this, I bought more for the looks/design and expected a significant drop in sound quality compared to other PC audio systems I've used. in other environments, namely the Audio Engine A2+, which I also think is fantastic. Both are good forays into the class of high-end, entry-level PC speakers - much better than the cheap plastic crappy speaker class - but they lack a full audiophile system with passive speakers and separate amplifiers/DACs/etc. for near-field use If I'm using them at the table, this type of system would be overkill for me (even for a guy who likes overkill), and most others probably lack a studio mastering system. The A2+ has the advantage of having a built-in DAC. Depending on how loud and crappy your PC's DAC is, this could be a major selling point since they're both roughly the same price. I prefer an onboard DAC, but even using my probably crappy Dell laptop DAC, the E25 Luna has a rich and full sound with good images placed on either side of my 34-inch Samsung CF791 monitor. The bass is also a lot fuller than I expected. Certainly don't expect bass like a dedicated 12+ inch subwoofer, but it's good for what it is and doesn't sound bloated to my ears. I might experiment with an external USB DAC in the future, but for now I'm happy with it. In terms of design, I'm a fan of the Audio Engine A2+'s minimalist and utilitarian design, but mostly they're just boxes. The E25 Luna are quite striking and unusual in terms of design - it might be something I love or hate, but I love it. Both have great finishes. I would have preferred regular speaker connections to the proprietary connection these E25 Lunas use, but it works well and all the cables were long enough for my system. *** Please note that I originally connected them backwards in the images. and has been corrected. The right channel speaker has power and audio input jacks, as well as a proprietary connection that goes to the left channel speaker.***

Pros
  • nice touch
Cons
  • little things
