They are great - there are nine (9) settings on the panel ranging from full off (!) brightening and tinting and so on. Looks great on wood. It turns itself off after a period of time (which I didn't record) to save batteries. These flashlights are powered by AA batteries; they are not connected. The lights are a good size too. I put my tree in a corner so I don't decorate the back. You may need 2 or even 3 of these sets if decorating an entire tree or a large tree. (Mine is just over 5 feet tall.) I'm glad I have it. My cat loves them and they are not a problem as they don't use wall energy. I had the light on all day and evening for about 10 days and the batteries were still fine. Very good deal and great lights.
