Review on Performance Intake 57 2530 Lifetime 1999 2003 by Derrick Shaw

BIG INVESTMENT Best filters

Excursion 2002 with 7.3 diesel engine. I love this car and will keep it forever. I already had a K&N filter, but when cleaning the filter, the screw connection on the air filter housing broke. The cost of replacing this part was almost the same as this new cold air intake and I didn't want to throw the 10 year old part off the junkyard as it would have the same weakness as the part that just blew. It was easy to install and I'm impressed with the performance. It's louder and I was nervous that I had a leak, but after numerous check stops I was sure everything was fine. The computer shows a 2mpg increase, but I need to double check. My husband is glad he now has my old K&N filter which has improved his truck's performance. I wouldn't have done this without breaking a part, but I'm glad it was my decision rather than going back to the original air cleaner housing design. Updated January 9, 2012 with an average of 2 additional mpg. It might not seem like much to most of you, but this car costs over $150 to fill up because of the 44-gallon tank. Idiot computer readings show I'm driving 22.7mpg. Thanks to my super programmer the mpg readings weren't accurate as I programmed them when the car was new. In fact, I average 18mpg and live in a mountainous area in Texas.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Some difficulties
